"Actually works very well. I can use external icon packs with this to customise my home screen. You do lose some functionality having widget shortcuts to apps (no long press options) but if you don't mind that, this is a good work around for not having a different launcher. The icons persist even through a phone restart. The only issue is when I change the system from dark to light or other way, the Dock shortcuts revert back to original icons, the main screen icons maintained their custom icons."
